Katharine Hubert was born in Pittsburgh, PA where she developed her passions for both music and science. As a music-biology double major, Katharine has always appreciated the power of creativity in problem solving and artistic creation. When not in the lab, Katharine enjoys cooking, traveling, spending time with her cat, and photography.
Transcription factors are proteins that regulate the expression of other genes. Hox genes encode a unique family of transcription factors that have important roles in development. Katharine’s thesis work aims to understand how Hox genes regulate differentiation of stem cells in adult organisms by using a fracture model.
