James Wedum, originally from Anchorage, Alaska, is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science with a rich background that includes service in the US Army as a Biomedical Equipment Technician and work as an Emergency Medical Technician. Recognized for his leadership in both military and academic settings, James is dedicated to developing high-impact technologies aimed at improving and saving lives. His academic work has spanned multi-agent autonomous robotic path planning for monitoring forest fires, service support robots in medical settings, and autonomous mapping of building fires. His current research is focused on supporting users with low vision or blindness in using virtual reality and exploring virtual environments through the use of novel semi-robotic tangible interfaces.

Outside of academia, James is an avid gamer and science fiction enthusiast, finding joy in both digital and tabletop worlds.
